Backcountry Skiing in Georgia

In the remote mountains of Georgia, between the villages of Mestia and Ushguli, lies a hidden gem for adventurers: a landscape untouched by time, where nature’s raw beauty unfolds at every turn. This region, home to towering peaks that soar to over 5,000 meters, offers a truly unique experience for those seeking both challenge and solitude.

Our journey took us deep into the heart of the Greater Caucasus, a place where the rugged terrain demands respect and rewards with unparalleled vistas. The snow-covered slopes, the stark beauty of the jagged mountains, and the ancient stone towers of Ushguli set the stage for a journey that was as much about the exploration of the land as it was about discovering the limits of endurance and camaraderie.

As we skied through pristine powder and navigated through remote valleys, the vastness of this untouched landscape became our constant companion. The light, at times soft and diffused, at other moments striking and dramatic, painted the mountains in a way that only the most remote corners of the world can.

An immersion in a living, breathing part of the world that feels almost otherworldly. Every turn on the ski slopes, every summit we reached, revealed a new perspective of this magnificent region—a place that, despite its isolation, leaves a lasting mark on the heart.
